As part of this year’s Bordeaux En Primeur campaign, Château Pichon Baron 2022 has been released at €134.40 per bottle ex-négociant, up 21.7% on the 2021 (€110.40 per bottle).
It is being released with a recommended retail price of £1,620 per 12×75, a 22.7% increase on the 2021’s opening price (£1,320 a case).

Critics’ scores
Neal Martin (Vinous) awarded the wine a barrel range of 96-98, praising its ‘pedigree and sophistication’. He deems the 2022 Pichon Baron a magnificent wine that ‘achieves a new level of precision’, thanks to new techniques and equipment in the vineyard and winery.
‘Gripping from the first moments’, said Jane Anson (Inside Bordeaux) who scored the wine 94 points. She adds that although it ‘could let more light in at this stage’, age will be very helpful.
‘Elegance with structure’, wrote James Suckling, who gave the wine a range of 96-97 points.
William Kelley (Wine Advocate) rated the wine 95-97 points, calling it an ‘unusually gourmand, sensual wine’ with ‘excellent concentration’.
Fair Value analysis
There is no significant correlation between Pichon Baron Market Prices and Neal Martin scores – the chosen critic for Liv-ex’s ‘Fair Value’ methodology.

Buyers looking for value in back vintages might want to consider the 2015, 2019 and 2020 vintages. All of these vintages received 97 points from Neal Martin (Vinous) – similar to the 2022 – and are available at discounts of 26.7%, 15.4% and 18.2% respectively to today’s release.

Pichon’s second label, Les Griffons de Pichon Baron, was released today €31.80 per bottle ex-négociant, up 10.4% from the 2021 release (€28.80).
