As part of this year’s Bordeaux En Primeur campaign, Château Petit-Village 2022 has been released at €92.40 per bottle ex-négociant, up 6.9% on the 2021 release (€86.40).
It is being offered by the international trade for £1,104 per 12×75, a 4.8% increase on the 2021’s opening price (£1,053 a case).
The new release is one of the most expensive vintages on the market. Buyers looking for value might be interested in the 2016, 2018 and 2019. See more pricing analysis below.
Critics’ scores
Neal Martin (Vinous) scored the wine 91-93 points. He mentions in his tasting note that ‘this is an estate that has more to give, not now but in the future’.
James Suckling awarded the wine a barrel range of 97-98 points. In his tasting note he said it was ‘silky and soft at the end. Very long and fine’. He added: ‘wait and see’.
William Kelley (Wine Advocate) scored the wine 89-91 points, noting ‘it appears to be a wine without a very strong sense of identity’.
Fair Value analysis
According to the chart above, today’s release is coming to the market at a premium to other vintages currently available.
Buyers looking for value may want to consider the 2016 vintage. It was awarded 93 points by Neal Martin and is currently available at a 49.6% discount to today’s release.
The 2018 and 2019 vintages also look attractive. Both vintages received a score of 91 points from Neal Martin and are available at a discount of 49.6% and 50.5% respectively to the 2022.
