  • Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste 2022 has been released for £715 per 12×75.
  • ‘A Pauillac endowed with huge potential’ said Neal Martin, who rated it 96-98 points.
  • Several back vintages offer better value compared to today’s release.

As part of this year’s Bordeaux En Primeur campaign, Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste 2022 has been released at €58.80 per bottle ex-négociant, up 16.7% on the 2021 release (€50.40).

It is being offered by the international trade for £715 per 12×75, a 19.2% increase on the 2021’s opening price (£600 a case). The volume released was 15% down on 2021, which may go some way in explaining the price increase.

Based on today’s release, buyers looking for value have several options among back vintages. See more pricing analysis below.

Liv-ex members ranked Grand-Puy-Lacoste third-best for value in this year’s En Primeur Survey, coming in behind Brane Cantenac and Rauzan Ségla, respectively.

Critics’ scores

Neal Martin (Vinous) awarded the wine a barrel range of 96-98 points, highlighting the ‘peacock’s tail’ of black fruit on the finish. He lauds the ‘velvety veneer’, which he says gives the 2022 ‘more precocity and sensuality’ compared to other vintages. In his words: ‘A Pauillac endowed with huge potential’.

‘A brilliant classic in the making’ according to William Kelley (Wine Advocate), who gave the wine a score of 95-97.

Antonio Galloni (Vinous) scored it at a range of 92-94.5 points, calling it ‘a very pretty wine’ with a radiance that is ‘front and center.’

Jeff Leve (Wine Cellar Insider) rated it 95-97 points, celebrating the ‘intensity, complexity, and aging ability’ from ‘the earliest harvest in the history of the estate.’
