Recent trading activity
Bordeaux trade continued to lead activity in the first few days of the week, accounting for 59.0% of the total. Attention remained fixed on blue-chip labels such as Château Margaux 2005 and Le Pin 2015.
After little action over the weekend, Burgundy trade picked up to 21.1%, driven by demand for Domaine Trapet Chambertin Grand Cru 2020 and François Carillon Puligny-Montrachet 2017.
Rhône trade also rose thanks to activity around Henri Bonneau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Réserve des Célestins 2017 and 2016.
Highly-rated La Conseillante vintages offering value
Looking at the back vintages of Pomerol estate Château La Conseillante, many currently offer good buying opportunities.
Of the 2011-2021 vintages, seven offer fair value, including the top-rated 2019 and highly-rated 2018 and 2020.
La Conseillante prices show a strong correlation with the scores of our Benchmark Critic (Neal Martin).
The 2019 is currently the only vintage of La Conseillante post-2016 to have risen in price since release; up 24.7%. Even so, at £1,890 per dozen it remains cheaper than some vintages with lower scores from the Benchmark Critic.
The 95-point 2012 has also seen strong price rises. Released at £660 per case, it has risen 153.2% in value and still represents one of the best value vintages from the last 12 years – especially as it has the same rating as the highly praised 2016 vintage.
Buyers looking for opportunities may wish to keep an eye on some of the wines that have fallen in price recently as well.
The 2018 for example, which carries a strong rating of 97-points, has fallen 15.4% since release to £1,709 a case, making it the cheapest of the four wines with that score.
