As part of this year’s Bordeaux En Primeur campaign, Pavillon Blanc du Château Margaux 2021 has been released at €240 per bottle ex-négociant, up 33.3% on the 2020’s opening price.
It is being offered by the international trade for £2,880 per 12×75. The new release is the most expensive vintage of Pavillon Blanc currently available among the last 15 vintages. See more pricing analysis below.
Critics’ scores
Neal Martin (Vinous) rated the 2021 91-93 points. His fellow Bordeaux critic Antonio Galloni was more generous with a barrel range of 94-96 points, saying it was ‘one of the finest Pavillon Blancs in recent memory.
William Kelley (Wine Advocate) also gave it 94-96 points, while Jane Anson gave it 97-points.
Fair Value analysis
Today’s opening price makes the 2021 the most expensive vintage on the market. The majority of vintages back to 2005 are under £2,500 per case (12×75) and many have the same score.
The 2019 and 2018 both have 93-points from Martin, which is the upper limit of his barrel score for the 2021, and are currently available for £1,950 and £2,200 respectively.
