We sat down with Neal Martin, one of the Bordeaux critics at Vinous, to talk about the Bordeaux 2021 vintage.
Among the topics discussed were why he called the vintage ‘enticingly fallible’ and the aspects of it he had enjoyed the most.
Chief among these were the lower alcohols, which he thinks are an essential part of what makes Bordeaux ‘great’, as well as the ‘fantastic’ Sauternes produced in 2021.
Although 2021 may not be the longest-lived vintage produced in the last decade, he added that it was important to have a ‘tapestry of vintages’ each with its own attributes and even early-drinking years ‘have an audience’.
