Critics’ scores
Both Vinous critics, Neal Martin and Antonio Galloni, scored the 2021 Lafite 95-97 points. Martin quoted head winemaker Eric Kohler who said the wine was, ‘a return to the style of Lafite Rothschild of the nineties in terms of freshness’. To which Martin wrote, ‘I concur’.
Jane Anson said the wine was ‘delivering right at the very top of Pauillac’, and scored it 97-points. Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW (The Wine Independent) thought it would turn out to be ‘one of the most long-living wines of the vintage’ (94-96 points).
Fair Value analysis
Today’s opening price makes the 2021 the cheapest vintage of Lafite on the market today. However, the volumes released are reportedly down 20% on stocks released last year.
Lafite’s best ‘fair value’ correlation (see chart above) is with scores from Wine Advocate rather than with our Benchmark Critic (Robert Parker & Neal Martin).
The estate’s second label, Carruades de Lafite, was released at €160 per bottle on 12th May.
