Critics’ scores
‘This will do fine as an early-drinking claret,’ said Neal Martin (Vinous), who scored it 88-90 points. Jane Anson awarded it 87-points, noting that it ‘needs further softening over ageing’.
Colin Hay (The Drinks Business) gave it a slightly higher barrel range of 90-92+ points. Hay liked its ‘pure and beautiful nose’ and complimented its ‘seamlessly integrated’ acidity.
Fair Value analysis
Cantemerle prices show higher correlation to bottle age than critic scores. Today’s opening price comes at the level implied by Liv-ex’s Fair Value methodology. However, buyers looking for value might wish to consider the 2012 vintage, which offers bottle age and is available for £211 per case.
The 2019 also looks attractive – the wine boasts 92-points from Martin and is available for 10.2% less than today’s release.
