Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW’s tenure in review

The Wine Advocate has announced that Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW is leaving the publication. Joe Czerwinski will take over as Editor-in-Chief and William Kelley as Deputy Editor (and Bordeaux reviewer).
One of the most prominent critics in wine today, Perrotti-Brown joined The Wine Advocate in 2008 and has been its Editor-in-Chief since 2013. In 2018, she took over Robert Parker’s spot reviewing all Bordeaux wines.
During her time at the publication, Perrotti-Brown has awarded 197 wines 100-points. The majority, 121 to be exact, have been from recent vintages (2015 onwards).
Her focus on the US has also led her to award 134 perfect scores to Californian wines, compared with 51 from Bordeaux and 11 from South Australia.

The most affordable 100-point wines

What price tag do Perrotti-Brown’s 100-point wines carry? Her perfect wines range from £976 per case to £146,663 in the case of Château Mouton Rothschild 1945 (if you are lucky to have any).
Twenty-five of Perrotti-Brown’s perfect wines remain available for under £3,000 per case. The 10 most affordable wines (under £2,200 per case) can be seen in the table below.

Californian wines lead perfect score tally

California has benefitted from Perrotti-Brown’s praise the most. Hundred Acre has been the top-scored producer, achieving 19 100-point scores across various wines and vintages. Colgin and Sine Qua Non have also been subject to her highest ratings, with nine 100-point wines each.
As previously explored, California is the region that has the most 100-point scores awarded in 2021 from all major critics.

Perrotti-Brown’s favourite Bordeaux wines

When looking at her Bordeaux scores by vintage, the 2009 leads with 12 100-point wines. On a brand level, Château Pétrus and Château Cheval Blanc stand out. Cheval Blanc received five 100-points from the critic for its 1998, 2009, 2010, 2015 and 2016. Petrus achieved the same number of high scores for the 2009, 2010, 2015, 2016 and 2018.
Château Latour has been the top-rated First Growth, with 100-points for its 1982, 2003, 2009, 2010, 2016 and 2018 vintages – though the latter two are yet to be released.
