The dry wine of Château d’Yquem, Y de Yquem 2020, has been released on its own for the first time.
- The wine has been released internationally at £1,236 (12×75).
- “Pulls away from the pack,” according to Jane Anson.
- The most recent five vintages are available in the market for less.
The dry wine of Château d’Yquem, Y de Yquem 2020, has been released at €102 per bottle ex-négociant, up 13.3% on the 2019 (€90). The wine is being offered internationally for £1,236 per 12×75, up 8.4% on the 2019’s release price (£1,140).
For the first time it is taking centre stage alone, as the release of Yquem 2019 has been delayed until March 2022.
Château d’Yquem is the most traded white Bordeaux brand, though most of the activity has been for its Sauternes.
Critical opinion
Jane Anson awarded today’s release 97-points. Anson said that Y de Yquem displays the “freshness necessary for great white wines in Bordeaux”. She complimented its “serious structure” and described it as a “successful and totally moreish” white.
Other major critics are yet to release their assessments.
Fair Value
With this price tag, today’s release sits at a similar level to the last five vintages.
The 2017 – the most affordable of the lot – boasts 98-points from James Suckling, who called it an “exotic white”; “full-bodied with dense, rich fruit and saltiness, which, together with extremely energetic acidity, really drive the finish”.
Buyers might wish to consider the 2016 (WA 92+), which has now entered its drinking window, according to Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW.
