- Bibi Graetz’s 2019 “Testamatta” has been released for £876 (12×75).
- It is the twentieth vintage of this label.
- “A pure expression of Sangiovese…in constant evolution,” said Monica Larner.
The 2019 Testamatta from Bibi Graetz has been released via La Place for €49 a bottle ex-négociant. It is being offered internationally for £876 per dozen.
The release is the same price ex-Bordeaux as the 2018 but the Market Price of the ’18 is currently 33% less at £584 per 12×75.
Critical opinion
The 2019 was rated 97-points by James Suckling, who called it “full-bodied and very refined”.
Monica Larner at the Wine Advocate gave it a 94 saying it was an, “elegantly streamlined and linear Tuscan red”.
She noted that Testamatta is a wine “in constant evolution”. Seventeen more hectares in two separate plots both north and south of Florence have been added to the vineyards providing fruit for the blend.
She said these new vineyards helped bring, “a lot more aromatic nuance and complexity to the wine”, as well as a “strong chalky mineral signature to the finish”.
Fair value
The 2016 and 2018 both look good value when compared with today’s release. As mentioned, the 2018 is 33% cheaper at present and also has a score of 94 from Larner.
The 2016, meanwhile has a current Market Price of £595 and has a score of 96-points from Larner.
