2021 has so far been the year of the First Growth – even more specifically the year of Rothschild.
Lafite Rothschild and Mouton Rothschild combined for eight of the top 10 most bid for wines by value in H1 2021, seen in the table above.
Furthermore, this is the only year since 2014, when we started tracking this activity, that the top 10 have all been First Growths.
Could the First Growth’s price performance be a factor?
The index is up 7.4% year-to-date.
The top 10 bid for wines by number of unique bids, however, are substantially different.
Bordeaux still has a strong presence, making up half of the top 10, including three from Pontet-Canet alone, but Italy holds three of the top four spots with Tignanello 2016, 2017, and 2018.
It’s easy to search for the LIVE bids of these wines on the exchange. Simply pick an LWIN11, enter it into the search bar and hit “enter” on your keyboard. When the results appear, check the “Live Bids” box under the “Show Me” filter and click “Go”.
