A study by Liv-ex, the London-based global wine exchange, has underlined the extent to which wines have become increasingly potent. Some connoisseurs are calling for a return to less alcoholic wines for a new generation of health-conscious consumers. The Liv-ex study of 35,000 bottles of red wine revealed that the average bordeaux produced in the 1990s contained 12.8 per cent of alcohol compared with 13.8 per cent 30 years later.
