The 2020 Pavillon Rouge du Château Margaux has been released for €138 per bottle ex-négociant, up 15% on the 2019 release.
The international trade is offering the wine for £1,656 per 12×75, 11% more than the current Market Price of the 2019.
Critical opinion
Neal Martin awarded the wine 91-93 points. He said: “I suspect that this will be a more approachable Pavillon Rouge compared to the 2018 and 2019, but it will certainly not short change anyone in terms of elegance.”
Antonio Galloni awarded 92-94 points and said, “the 2020 Pavillon Rouge shows just how compelling the vintage is”.
Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW also gave 92-94 points commenting on its, “achingly plush tannins and seamless freshness, finishing with epic length and a whole array of fragrant earth sparks”.
Fair Value
Based on Benchmark Critic scores, today’s release price falls into the middle ground among other 92-point wines. The 2019 vintage at £1,494 per case currently offers the best value in the 92-point range.
The 2015 vintage stands alone at 94-points and is also available at a discount to today’s release.
