- The wine has been released internationally for £2,811 (12×75).
- “A towering wine,” said Antonio Galloni
- Many back vintages offer value relative to today’s release.
Château L’Eglise-Clinet 2020 has been released En Primeur for Primeur for €234 per bottle ex-négociant, up 14.7% on the 2019’s opening price.
The wine is being offered for £2,811 per case by the international trade. This is 13% less than the current Market Price of the 2019.
The new release looks fully priced in relation to back vintages. Although costing less than the 2019, many wines with equal or better scores are available at a discount. See more Fair Value analysis below.
Critical Opinion
Both Neal Martin and Antonio Galloni at Vinous rated the wine 96-98. “The 2020 L’Eglise-Clinet is a towering wine. I am not sure what else to say. After having tasted hundreds of 2020s, L’Eglise-Clinet very clearly claims a stake for itself among the wines of the vintage,” said Galloni.
“This is a very harmonious and focused L’Eglise-Clinet,” said Martin. He added that it was: “A magnificent testament to a great winemaker,” a reference to the late Denis Durantou who died last year.
Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW awarded it 97-99 points and James Suckling 98-99.
Fair Value
The Pomerol estate has a close correlation with the Benchmark Critic’s scores. As such today’s release looks overpriced versus back vintages.
As can be seen from the chart, the 2017, 2006, 2012, 2008 and 2014 all have a score of 95-points as well but all are considerably cheaper.
The better-rated 2018 (97) and 2016 (98) are also available at a discount to the 2020.
