Gloria 2020 En Primeur: “impressive”

  • The wine is being offered for £317 (12×75) SEP.
  • “Pretty and inviting,” according to Antonio Galloni.
  • The 2020 carries the same Benchmark Critic score as 2019 and 2016 and is priced in the middle.

Gloria

The 2020 Château Gloria has been released for €26.4 per bottle ex-négociant, up 10% on the 2019 release.

The international trade is offering the wine for £317 per 12×75, 5.6% more than the current Market Price of the 2019.

Although last year’s release offers the best value for money based on Benchmark Critic scores, the 2016 also makes a compelling in-bottle alternative. See more Fair Value analysis below.

Critical opinion

Neal Martin (Vinous) awarded today’s release a barrel range of 93-95 points. Martin called it “wonderful” and said that Gloria “might actually surpass its sibling, Château St. Pierre, this year”.

The wine received the same score from Jeb Dunnuck, who reckoned it is “playing in the same class as the 2016, 2018, and 2019”.

James Suckling (94-95) also remarked that it would “be interesting to see if 2020 is better than 2019”.

Antonio Galloni gave it 91-93 points, and said that “Gloria impresses for its exceptional balance”.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW (The Wine Advocate) and Jeff Leve (The Wine Cellar Insider) both scored it 92-94 points.

Fair Value

Based on today’s release price, the 2020 Gloria sits between the 2016 and the 2019 vintages, which boast the same score from Neal Martin.

The 2014 with 91-points from Martin but 21% cheaper than today’s release presents another attractive in-bottle alternative.
