Champagne house Dom Pérignon has announced its latest releases in the UK – the 2012 vintage offered for £1,824 per 12×75, and P2 2003 at £4,020 per case. Both wines will be available in October.
The 2012 Dom Pérignon displays, “fruit of balanced intensities, controlled tension and extreme contrast,” according to the Chef de Cave, Vincent Chaperon.
Chaperon considers 2012 “a star vintage” for the region. “A year full of paradoxes for winemaking, 2012 gave birth to a great vintage, surmounting multiple challenges,” he said.
At this price level, the 2012 is positioned above most recent Dom Pérignon vintages, including the critically acclaimed 2008. Only the 1999 and 2002 cost more.
Dom Pérignon Plénitude Concept
Dom Pérignon P2 2003 is “the second life expression of the 2003 harvest”.
For P2, “a limited number of bottles are set aside in the cellars for additional lees ageing” and released when the, “wine reaches a new Plénitude, or peak of energy and maturity”.
The new release is available for £2,820 per case. The 2003 vintage of Dom Pérignon currently commands a Market Price of £1,740 per 12×75.
Broader trends
Champagne prices have been rising. The Champagne 50 index is up 13.2% over the past year – more than any other region.
Dom Pérignon has performed particularly well. It is the leading Champagne label, and its index is up 25.1% over one year. It’s also the most traded Champagne brand (LWIN7) by value.
Trade by value for the label has been led by its 2008, 2010 and 2002 vintages. Will the 2012 vintage also make waves?
