Critical opinion
Today’s release received a range of 95-97 points from Vinous critics Neal Martin and Antonio Galloni and The Wine Advocate’s Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW.
Martin said that, “the 2020 Bélair-Monange continues its impressive run of form under the JP Moueix family, having rapidly ascended to the highest rank within the Saint-Émilion appellation”.
According to Galloni, this “exceptional” wine, “will reward readers with several decades of thrilling drinking”.
James Suckling rated it 97-98, noting that it is, “very fine-grained with a fascinating finish”.
Jeff Leve (The Wine Cellar Insider) saw potential for perfection in the wine, awarding it 98-100 points.
Jane Anson (Decanter) gave it 99-points and said it was, “austere in all the right ways, with just the most incredible depth and layers”.
Fair Value
Prices for Bélair-Monange show strong correlation to Benchmark Critic scores.
The 2017 and 2009 vintages carry the same critic score of 96-points from Neal Martin but are available well below the 2020 release.
The 2019 vintage, which has the highest Benchmark Critic score of 97-points, also offers good value at £1,260 per case.
