- The wine is being offered for £325 (12×75) SEP.
- This represents a 3.3% decrease on the 2019 release.
- A score above 94 points from the Benchmark Critic would make it stand out as good value.
The 2020 Château Lafon Rochet has been released for €26 per bottle ex-négociant, 3.7% less than the 2019 was on release.
The international trade is now offering the wine for £325 per case of 12 (75cl format). This is 3.3% below the 2019 opening price, but makes the new wine 11.3% more expensive than the 2019’s current Market Price (£292).
Ageing potential?
The critical reception for 2020 Lafon Rochet has so far been positive. James Suckling awarded the wine a barrel range of 93-94 points, describing it as, “medium-to full-bodied with excellent energy”.
Jancis Robinson MW gave it 17 points, saying that “this is very successful 2020”. She added: “Perhaps not for seriously long-term cellaring but well done Basile Tesseron for producing something so appetising and ground-breaking.”
According to Jeff Leve (94-96), however, “this should age and develop nicely for at least 2-3 decades”.
Fair Value
Followers of Leve will find value in today’s release. A score of 94 points or above from our Benchmark Critic, Neal Martin, would make the wine stand out against previous vintages.
Buyers looking for physical vintages might wish to consider the 2014 (NM 92), available at a 13.5% discount to today’s release. The 2019 also looks attractive with 94 points from Martin and at a 10.2% discount.
