And finds 14 potential candidates for perfection – more than all other critics who have released their Bordeaux 2020 scores so far.
Jeff Leve (The Wine Cellar Insider) has now released close to 850 Bordeaux 2020 scores and notes, with more to follow.
Two of this week’s offers – Angelus and Pavie – feature among his top-scoring wines, boasting a barrel range of 98-100 points.
This is the highest score Angelus has received so far. Leve said that “it’s the mid-palate and finish, with its non-stop waves of silky, sensuous fruits that build, expands and intensifies, leaving you with a beautiful purity of fruit-infused with spicy chocolate”. The international trade offers the wine for £3,048 per 12×75, up 8.2% on the current Market Price of the 2019.
Leve’s other favourite, Pavie, also featured among James Suckling’s top-scoring wines (JS 99-100). Leve wrote in his tasting note: “The fruit coats your palate with layers of opulent, sensuous, salty fruits that hold on to you for at least 60 seconds. Leave this in the cellar for 12-15 years and enjoy the thrills for the next three decades”.
Like many other critics, Leve’s potential 100-point wines indicate a preference for the Right Bank; 11 out of 14 come from Pomerol and Saint-Émilion. Is this a Bordeaux 2020 trend emerging?
