Château Langoa Barton 2020 has been released at €29.4 per bottle ex-négociant, up 4.2% on the 2019 opening price of €28. The wine is being offered by the international trade at £358 per 12×75, a 1.1% increase on the 2019 opening price of £354 per case.
Jane Anson of Decanter awarded the wine 92 points which places it slightly below her rating for Langoa Barton 2019. Anson also noted a drinking window of 2027 – 2042 for both wines.
James Suckling awarded the wine a barrel range of 93-94, adding, “it’s medium-to full-bodied with linear, tight tannins that are polished and fine”.
The wine received additional scores from Rod Smith (91), Jancis Robinson (17), and Jean-Marc Quarin.
Fair value
Today’s release price stands amid a number of back vintages that look of good value. Most recently the 2019 vintage which has a market price slightly below the 2020 and carries a Neal Martin score of 94.
The 2015 and 2017 vintages also look well placed at present, with scores of 93 and below £400 per dozen.
While Langoa Barton’s prices falls below the fair value threshold of 50%, it has a stronger correlation with prices and age – a 55% correlation.
Prices for the wine appear to hold relatively flat in the £325 to £400 range, until the wine is greater than 10 years of age. In that case the 2011 and 2012 vintage may look positioned to move soon.
