With prices of the top Bordeaux, Burgundy, and, increasingly, Italian wines continuing to rise, buyers are constantly on the move in search of value.

One country that has long been over-looked by the market is Germany. This situation is changing, however, as the country’s share by value among Rest of the World trade grew to 15.8% in 2020, up from 2.1% in 2019.

The least expensive 100-point wine currently offered LIVE on the exchange is a German Riesling – Schloss Johannisberg, Riesling Grunlack Spatlese 2019, which is available for as little as £36 a bottle (£432 per 12×75).

At an even more attractive price is Fritz Haag Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr Riesling Trocken GG 2019, which carries a score of 98 from James Suckling and a LIVE offer of £143 per 6×75 (£286 per 12×75).

One more to highlight is Dr Loosen Graacher Domprobst Riesling GG 2019, with a score of 95 points. The wine is available for £78 per 6×75 (38 cases).

No matter the score bracket you select, German wines offer impressive value.

We have noted an uptick in activity for these the wines from the US following the lifting of tariffs, but demand was rising well before that.

While we are not quite at the record levels of activity seen in the summer of 2020, both bids and offers have increased year-to-date and March has been the busiest ever month of trade for German wines.
