Last week, The Wine Advocate published part 2 of Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW’s Bordeaux 2019 coverage, including late barrel samples and her top value picks.
Perrotti-Brown said she didn’t have much to add to her comprehensive vintage summary in Part 1, titled “The Miracle Vintage”, other that the fact that she continues “to be impressed with the consistency of quality from top to bottom”.
As our closing Bordeaux 2019 report showed, Perrotti-Brown was one of the critics to award strong scores for the wines comprising our Bordeaux 500 index, with an average of 96.9 points. That compared favourably to an average of 96.1 (Neal Martin) and 95.2 (Antonio Galloni).
Perrotti-Brown noted that “in 2019, we have an outstanding vintage with some clear price incentives to buy the wines as futures”. She explained that “prior to this campaign, we had arrived at a stage where many were questioning if Bordeaux futures even had a future. The fine wine market simply did not have faith that the recent vintages would increase much on their en primeur price after they are bottled and hit the retailer shelves”.
But the pricing stance many chateaux adopted with the 2019 vintage “has thus far been well received by buyers”, according to the critic.
She further put together a list of her “top outstanding-quality wine bargains […] available in the markets for under US $35 (before local duties, taxes, etc.)”.
In the table below, you can see her top-scoring value picks along with their UK release prices. To read Perrotti-Brown’s vintage impressions in full, click here.
