Pavillon Rouge 2019 has been released at €120 per bottle ex-négociant, down 16.7% on the 2018 release (€144). The wine is being offered by the international trade at £1500 per 12×75, a 16.2% decrease from the 2018 opening price of £1790 a case.
James Suckling awarded the wine a barrel range of 96-97, the highest score of critics. Jean-Marc Quarin awarded a 95. Jeb Dunnuck was equal in praise and awarded 94-96.
Jane Anson (Decanter) awarded a 94. Lisa Perrotti-Brown (Robert Parker) a (92-94)+, noting the alcohol level was 14.2%.
Neal Martin awarded a 91-93, remarking, “it is well defined and detailed, yet never becomes as expressive as some of its peers[…] it will require four to five years in bottle”.
Today’s release comes to the market equivalent to the 2016 vintage in both market price and score, with the 2017 also equal in score but just marginally more expensive. Neal Martin’s highest scored vintage, 2015 (94), sits at just a 6% premium to the newest release.
Pavillon Blanc 2019 has also been released, at £1956 per 12×75, a 1.2% increase on the 2018 release (£1932).
