Yesterday, Rioja Alta Rioja Gran Reserva 904, 2011 released in the UK at £420 per 12×75, a 7.7% increase from the 2010 release (£390 per 12×75).
The 2011 is only the eighth vintage in the past 50 years to be awarded a rating of “excellent” by the Rioja Wine Board.
The scores for the 2011 have not been published but are expected in the coming weeks. However, in an earlier report on the vintage, Antonio Galloni stated, “I’ll go out on a limb and call ’11 a cross between 2010 and 2009”.
The 2011 Rioja Alta 904 comes to the market slightly more expensive than the 2009 and 2010 yet still trades at a significant discount to wines with more age on them.
In 2019, the Rioja Alta 904 2009 was the 5th most traded wine from Spain and the 2010 is currently the most traded Spanish wine of 2020, making up 22% of trade by volume for the region.
