Seven years later, the last vintage that Latour sold En Primeur has now been re-released ex-Chateau.
Latour 2011 was offered this morning at €450 per bottle ex-negociant, up 2.3% on the ex-negociant price of €440 per bottle in 2012.
Today’s release is being offered in the UK at £5,460 per 12×75, up 13.7% on its En Primeur release price of £4,800 per 12×75. The wine had fallen in value since 2012, and now commands a Market Price of £4,400 per 12×75. It last traded at £4,200 per case in July this year.
Latour has reportedly released 2000 cases of its 2011 vintage ex-Chateau this morning. Today’s release price positions the wine above all other “off-vintages” available on the market such as 2001, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2008.
Five years ago, when reviewing Latour 2011 in bottle, Robert Parker called it “one of the vintage’s most compelling wines”. According to Parker (93-95), “this beautifully rich, savory Latour will be surprisingly drinkable in 4-5 years, and should age easily for two decades or more”.
James Suckling also tasted the wine in 2014, awarding it 95 points, and recommended drinking it “in 2020”.
Prices for Latour show 83% correlation to Wine Advocate critic scores. Today’s release price positions it above the implied ‘Fair Value’ line but might lure keen collectors with its provenance.
Buyers might wish to also consider the better-scored 2002, 2004 and 2008 – all available at a discount. Alternatively, those willing to spend 30% more could get their hands on the “perfect” 2003.
