Beaucastel Hommage J Perrin 2017 has been released at €270 per bottle ex-negociant, the same as the 2016 (€270). It is being offered by the international trade for £3,200 per 12×75, an 8% decrease on the 2016’s opening price of £3,500 per case.
Critics have praised this year’s Hommage J Perrin. Last month, Joe Czerwinski (Wine Advocate) scored the wine a barrel range of 97-100 points. In his tasting note, he said that it was “another standout vintage”, adding that “it’s maybe not quite as sure a thing to reach the century score as the beyond-superlative 2018, but I wouldn’t rule it out. This is seriously great wine.”
Jeb Dunnuck awarded the wine a perfect 100-points. In his tasting note, he said that, “with full-bodied richness, a stacked, opulent mid-palate, building tannins, and a sensational finish, it’s another perfect wine from this team and is unquestionably in the same realm as the 2000, 2001, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010, and 2016.”
Today’s release is coming to the market slightly above the line implied by our ‘Fair Value’ methodology. Those confident that the 2017 is a 100-point wine, however, might find value in the release.
Those looking for other options may want to consider the 2009 and 2012 vintages, which both received 99 points from Jeb Dunnuck when he was reviewing for the Wine Advocate, and are available at discounts to today’s release.
