Liv-ex 100 index increases for the first time this year

The Liv-ex 100 index – the industry benchmark – closed June on 309.22, up 0.47% on the previous month. This is the first increase for the index so far this year – albeit a small one.

The top movers in June were mixed. Palmer 2009 was the biggest riser, up 9%. It was closely followed by another Bordeaux wine: Lafite Rothschild 2010.

Two wines from the 2015 vintage in the Rhone also featured: Beaucastel and Clos Papes. Beaucastel 2015 has performed somewhat turbulently as of late. The wine was the top riser in April, but the biggest faller in May. This month it is back among the risers (+7%).

Armand Rousseau Chambertin 2015, whose performance has also undulated in the secondary market, was once again the biggest faller this month, down 11%.

Changes to the Liv-ex 100 index

Next month, as part of our annual review, we will be updating the components of the Liv-ex 100 index. Each year the wines included in the index are reviewed to ensure that they reflect market developments. To qualify, wines must see regular activity on Liv-ex over the past 24 months.

This year, 28 changes have been made to make way for newer vintages or more actively traded wines. The number of Bordeaux wines in the index has been reduced from 67 to 50 to better reflect the regions market share, while seven wines have been added from both Burgundy and Italy, along with three from Champagne.

The complete changes to the index are shown in the tables below.
