Chapelle Mission Haut Brion 2018 has been released at €60 per bottle ex-negociant, the same as the 2017. It is being offered by the international trade at £720 per 12×75, an increase of 2.1% in sterling terms on the 2017 release of £705 per case.
According to James Suckling, today’s release is “a solid second wine from La Mission, […] driven and long”. Suckling awarded it 93-94 points – the highest score achieved by the wine from the ‘Benchmark’ critics.
In comparison, Antonio Galloni (Vinous) gave it 87-89 points and argued that the finish is “both compact and short”. However, he said that the “aromatics are quite appealing in the Chapelle”.
Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW (The Wine Advocate) scored it 91-93 and noted that “the palate has wonderful freshness lifting the black and red fruit preserves, framed by beautifully rounded tannins”.
With this price tag, today’s release is coming to the market above a number of recent vintages. Depending on their critic of choice, buyers might find value in today’s release or decide to look for alternatives. Other comparable vintages like 2009, 2010 and 2015 can currently be bought at discounts.
