Rauzan Segla 2018 has been released at €72 per bottle ex-negociant, up 36.3% on the 2017 release (€52.80). It is being offered by the trade for £900 per 12×75, up 38.8% on the 2017 release of £648 per case.
Critics have praised this year’s Rauzan Segla. Antonio Galloni (Vinous) awarded the wine a barrel range of 97-100 points. He said it was “simply unforgettable” and added that he “won’t be surprised if one day the 2018 is considered among the greatest Rauzan Seglas of all time”.
Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW (Wine Advocate) agreed that this year’s Rauzan Segla was “seduction in a glass” and awarded 97-99+ points. Meanwhile, James Suckling added that “this is one of the most structured and deep Rauzans I have tasted”. He awarded the wine a barrel range of 99-100 points.
Liv-ex members also commended this year’s Rauzan Segla and voted it the 3rd best value wine of the vintage, despite the category defining a ‘value wine’ as one with an expected release price of less than £600 per case.
Still, despite today’s release price, the 2018 might look like a worthy buy for those that are confident in the quality of the wine. Rauzan Segla is widely considered a ‘brand on the move’ and the 2016 has already risen 11% since release.
Alternatively, buyers interested in back-vintages might be tempted by the 2012 which is currently available at a 36% discount to today’s release and was scored 95+ points by Jeb Dunnuck last month.
