Croix Beaucaillou 2018 has been released at €33.6 per bottle ex-negociant, up 12% on the 2017’s opening price of €30 but 3.4% below that of the 2016 (€34.8).
The wine is being offered by UK merchants for £402 per 12×75, an increase of 8% on the 2017 release of £372 per case.
Today’s release boasts 94-95 points from James Suckling who described it as “savoury and delicious with dark-berry and mushroom character and cedar undertones”. Antonio Galloni (Vinous) also scored the “outrageously beautiful, vivid wine” in his words, giving it a barrel range of 91-94.
Lisa Perrotti-Brown (The Wine Advocate) awarded it 91-93 points and said the wine is “full, rich and seductive in the mouth”. She added that “this is not a second wine as such, because it comes from a dedicated part of the vineyard located on the south bank of La Mouline”.
With this price tag, today’s release stands above most recent vintages available in the market. It is 12% more expensive than the 2016 (Neal Martin 93) and at the same price level as the 2009 and 2010 which have been highly regarded by Parker and offer more bottle age.
