Beychevelle 2018 released

By May 6, 2019Bordeaux 2018

Beychevelle 2018 has been released today at €60 per bottle ex-negociant. It is being offered by the international trade at £720 per 12×75. At this price, it is the second cheapest Beychevelle vintage currently in the market. Only last year’s release is available at a lower price. All other recent vintages are trading within or close to the £800-1,000 per 12×75 range.

Prices for Beychevelle are not correlated to critic scores. As you can see in the chart above, older vintages tend to command the higher prices. This year’s opening price is therefore likely to be welcomed by the market, though brand buyers simply seeking to find Beychevelle at the lowest price might look to the 2017.

Still, buyers considering critical acclaim may be tempted by the latest release. Lisa Perrotti-Brown (Wine Advocate) called it “Beautiful!”, noting its “firm, velvety texture and fantastic freshness lifting the very long, perfumed finish.” She score it 94-96 points. Antonio Galloni (Vinous) was similarly effusive in his praise, describing it as “exotic, flamboyant and full-throttle” (93-96 points).

Jane Anson (Decanter) observes a trend of increasing quality at the property, and says that “it’s maintaining that step-up” with the 2018. She says that it is, “built to age, and will do so with very little trouble.” She notes healthy yields of 55 hl/ha, with 50% of production going into the Grand Vin.
