Armailhac 2018 was released this morning at €34.80 per bottle ex-negociant, up 11.5% on the 2017’s opening price of €31.20. It is being offered at £420 per 12×75, up 8.2% on the 2017 release of £388 per case.
From our ‘Benchmark Critic’, James Suckling awarded the wine a barrel range of 93-94 and praised its “attractive, earthy aftertaste”. Lisa Perrotti-Brown (The Wine Advocate) gave it the slightly lower 91-93 points but described it as a “wonderfully opulent D’Armailhac!”. She further commented that “the decadent palate delivers loads of black berry layers and a firm, grainy frame with underlying freshness and an earthy finish”.
Antonio Galloni (Vinous) has also scored today’s release (90-92 points). In his tasting note, he commented that the wine was “lifted, floral and nicely focused” and that it had “quite a bit of aromatic depth from the Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot”.
Chris Kissack (94-96) was also impressed with the wine, saying that “there are themes of flavour and texture, not least that elegant composition, that tie this in style to Mouton”.
Other vintages that might look attractive for buyers include the 2014 and 2015 which boast 92 points from Neal Martin and are currently available at a slight discount.
