Ornellaia 2016 was released by UK merchants this morning at £1,800 per 12×75. The wine has already seen trade within Europe.
According to The Wine Advocate’s Monica Larner, Ornellaia 2016 “delivers the most beautiful sensations of Softness, Succulence and Structure. The balance between those three S’s is Sublime.” She awarded it a barrel range of 96-98 points.
Antonio Galloni (Vinous) also reviewed the “hugely promising wine” in his words and scored it 96+ points.
At this price, today’s release sits above all other vintages currently available in the market, including the equally-scored 2006 and 2010.
We wait to see whether the “luxuriant wine with profuse abundance and beaming optimism” (ML) will be met with equal optimism by UK buyers.
