Today, Sassicaia 2016 was released in the UK at £1,270 per 12×75.
The Wine Advocate’s Monica Larner awarded it a “highly-deserved 100-point score”. She said: “The 2016 Sassicaia stands tall next to the epic 1985 vintage that set the ultimate benchmark for vino italiano”.
James Suckling also reviewed the wine in September 2017. He awarded it a barrel range of 97-98 points and described it as having a “seamless texture and great composure”.
Sassicaia’s UK release price positions it well between other recent vintages currently available in the market, as the chart above shows. Its perfect score from Larner, however, distinguishes it from its predecessors.
Moreover, the wine is at a significant discount (-24.3%) to the 2015, which Larner rated 97 points when tasting it in bottle. In her tasting note, she commented that both 2015 and 2016 are “excellent” – “two of the best to emerge from Bolgheri, and indeed Tenuta San Guido, in recent memory”.
