Jane Anson’s Bordeaux 2016 scores from the Medoc have now been published on Decanter.com. Her report on the wines from the Right Bank will be published next week.
In the report, Anson noted that “several Bordeaux 2016 wines have improved even further since en primeur”. She added that “there is particular excitement on the Left Bank where several top Medoc estates have outperformed 2015”.
Overall, Anson found perfection in two wines from the Left Bank: she scored both Leoville Las Cases and Lafite Rothschild 100-points.
Leoville Las Cases 2016 – Wine of the vintage
In her tasting note, Anson commented that the wine was “mouthfilling and almost less austere than all of the others, yet it’s a serious wine”. She added that it is “a great advert for the whole of Bordeaux, and for me it’s the clear wine of the vintage”.
Lafite Rothschild 2016 – Extremely accomplished
Anson’s other top-scoring wine was Lafite Rothschild 2016, which she said has “ripeness and a sense of promise but, as is often the case with a young Lafite, it’s not giving a lot away and we can expect it to age for many decades perfectly comfortably”. She suggested that the wine was “extremely accomplished” and “one to cherish”.
At En Primeur, Lafite Rothschild 2016 was crowned wine of the vintage by Liv-ex members.
