Opus One 2015 has been released at €208 per bottle ex-negociant, up 9.4% on the 2014 release (€190). It is being offered by the international trade at £2,700 per 12×75.
Allocations are down 20% on last year, largely due to reduced production.
The 2015 vintage in Napa Valley has been mixed. In a recent report, Antonio Galloni commented that “2015 is shaping up to be a vintage of opulent, voluptuous wines with real personality and character at the top end. Beyond, that though, quality is much less consistent. Some wines show distinctly roasted notes while other lack depth”.
That being said, critics have praised this year’s Opus release. Antonio Galloni (Vinous) awarded the wine 96+ points. In his tasting note he commented that “the 2015 captures all the essence of the vintage while retaining a good bit of aromatic freshness”.
James Suckling (JamesSuckling.com) was slightly more generous and scored the wine 98 points. He described it as “juicy and so gorgeous now”, adding that he “like[d] it better than the excellent 2014”.
Today’s release is being offered below all the other recent vintages currently available in the market. It may therefore represent an exciting opportunity for buyers.
Opus One Overture was also released today at €90 per bottle ex-negociant.
