Welcome to the May 2018 Liv-ex newsletter
It’s been another busy month at Liv-ex. Despite (or because of?) a slow start to this year’s En Priemur campaign, overall trade value in May was the highest since June 2011. We’ve launched two new features to our website (details below), covered releases from both Champagne and Port, and published a report by Gavin Quinney on the hail that recently hit Bordeaux. The pace of the Bordeaux 2017 campaign has started to pick up, and as always, you can keep up-to-date on Liv-ex Insights, here.

More choice than ever – bid against lists
We have launched a new feature on our mobile trading platform which allows you to bid against list prices. This means that in addition to the £20m of live offers already on the market, you will now be able to bid on £164m of listed wines. If you share your wine list with Liv-ex, you may start to receive additional notifications about firm commitments to buy, making it easier than ever for you to find trading opportunities. For more information, click here.
Market Price updates
The Market Prices that you see on Liv-ex are now more accurate and up-to-date than ever before, and cover a broader range of wines. In May, we completed a refresh of our prices using a new and improved algorithm. As a result, 30% more wines now have a Market Price from the past 14 days. One of the most significant changes is that single bottle prices can now influence the Market Price. This is because the algorithm is able to identify when the bottle market for an individual wine becomes more important than the case market. For more information, click here.
LWIN wins drinks business award
We are pleased to announce that Liv-ex has won the drinks business 2018 Supply Chain Initiative of the year award for releasing LWIN as Open Data and giving it a Creative Commons (CC) licence. This is the third year in a row that we have won the award. For more information on LWIN and past winners, click here.
Updates to Privacy Policy
We have updated our privacy policy to bring it in line with the new EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Our new policy provides more detail about how we collect and use your data, and your rights to control that information. You do not need to do anything, but if you would like to read our updated policy, you can find it here.
Liv-ex in the news
This month, Bloomberg published an article covering 2017 En Primeur prices, and the drinks business questioned if Carruades’ release was ambitious or just right? Meanwhile, Decanter reported that Lafleur’s 2017 release was oversubscribed and Barron’s covered how to go about investing in fine wine as a safe haven.
You can find the top fine wine market news stories on our press page, here.
