Haut Bailly 2017 has been released today at €72 per bottle ex-negociant, down 14.3% on the 2016 release (€84). It is being offered by the international trade at £888 per 12×75, a decrease of 10.8% on the 2016 release of £996 per case.
Antonio Galloni scored the wine 93-96 points noting that “the April frost took with it a 30% of the production”. Neal Martin, who awarded a score of 92-94 points, suggested that the wine will need time in bottle but will “repay the patient wine-lover.”
Today’s opening price is quite punchy, coming with a heavy premium to the price implied by Liv-ex’s fair value methodology. Once again the 2014 vintage looks like an obvious choice for fans of Haut Bailly searching for a wine with a higher score and a lower price. Alternatively, last year’s highly rated released would also appear to offer some value.
