Ausone 2017 has been released at €480 per bottle ex-negociant, down 18.4% on 2016 (€588). It is being offered by the international trade at £5,650 per 12×75, a decrease of 22.1% in sterling terms on the 2015 release price of £7,260 per case.
Critics have highly rated this year’s Ausone. Neal Martin, who awarded a score of 94-96 points commented: “what a great Ausone this is destined to be.” His former colleague, Lisa Perotti-Brown MW was even more enthusiastic. Awarding a score of 97-99 points she praised the wine’s “compelling tension”.
Further support can be found from Liv-ex members, who rated Ausone 2017 as the 9th best wine of the vintage, placing it as the fourth highest ranked Right Bank wine.
Today’s opening price comes with around a 20% premium to the price implied by Liv-ex’s fair value methodology. Buyers looking for value elsewhere might be interested in the similarly scored 2014, which is available for over a £1,000 less than today’s offering.
