Suduiraut 2017 has been released at €45.60 per bottle ex-negociant, equal to last year. It is expected to be offered by the trade at £565 per 12×75. This is an 8.7% increase on last year due in part to sterling weakness.
The wine has received relatively strong scores from critics. Neal Martin, writing for Vinous, described it as a “superb Suduiraut” and scored it 94-96. His colleague Antonio Galloni awarded it a similar 94-97. He noted the careful selection behind this year’s wine: “Only the fruit from the last two picks made it into the Grand Vin.”
Can these kind words justify the price? This year’s wine is entering the market at a premium to all other recent vintages, even those with stronger critical acclaim. For example, Martin previously described the 2009 as, “one of the greatest wines ever produced from the estate” and scored it 98. It is available in the market at an 20% discount on today’s release.
