Rieussec 2017 has been released at €42 per bottle ex-negociant, equal to the release prices of the 2016 and 2015. It is expected to be offered by merchants at around £500 per 12×75, a 4.1% increase on last year (£480) due to sterling weakness.
At this price, the new release would be higher than all recent back vintages available in the secondary market. The highly-scored 2009 continues to look attractive to buyers seeking relative value. It is available at £330, 34% below the expected price of the 2017
The 2017 Rieussec has received a diverse range of scores from critics. Writing for Vinous, Neal Martin awarded it 92-94, commenting that it, “does not really exude the richness that you expect from Sauternes.” On the other hand, James Suckling rated it as one of his top Sauternes of the vintage, declaring it “harmonious and great”, 97-98 points.
Rieussec was 15% affected by frost, according to Jane Anson for Decanter, but only plots used for the second wine and dry white wine were damaged. She scored it 94.
