Malescot St Exupéry 2017 has been offered at €34.80 per bottle ex-negociant, down 15.1% on 2016’s release price (€34.8) but the same price as the 2015 release. It is being sold by the UK trade at £430 per 12×75. This is 14% lower than the ex-London price of the 2016 (£500).
Critical praise has been mixed for this year’s vintage. Neal Martin awarded a score of 91-93 points but noted that “It is not a complex Malescot but I admire the balance and focus”. James Suckling on the other hand, who tends to score this wine relatively high, gave a score of 95-96 points, praising the “deep and ripe core of fruit in the center (sic) palate”.
Today’s release price of £430 places Malescot St Exupery 2017 at a very slight premium to the price implied by Liv-ex’s fair value methodology. However, due to frost, the volume of wine that has been brought to market is 30% lower than last year.
Buyers searching back vintages might consider last year’s highly-rated release, which is still available in the UK at the opening price.
