Lagrange Saint Julien 2017 has been released at €30 per bottle ex-negociant, a 13.7% discount on the 2016 price of €34.8. It is being offered by the UK trade at £370 per 12×75, a decrease of 12% in sterling terms on the 2016 release of £420 per case.
The volume of stock being offered has been reduced by 35% on last year, due to frost.
Critical reception for this year’s lagrange has been mixed. In his tasting note, Neal Martin said he “found the bouquet missing the same cohesion as the 2014, 2015 and 2016 at this stage”. He added that the wine was “somehow ‘distracted’ by the frost” and awarded it 87-89 points. Jeb Dunnock, on the other hand, awarded the wine 91-93 points, calling it “a success in the vintage”.
This year’s lagrange is entering the market above a number of other recent vintages. Followers of Neal Martin may wish to consider the recently scored 2014. It is currently available at a 23% discount to today’s release and carries a higher score of 92 points. The 2015 may also look attractive.
Fiefs Lagrange 2017 was also released today at €17.4 per bottle ex-negociant, equal to the 2016. It is being offered by the UK trade for £215 per 12×75. The volume of stock offered is down 70% on the 2016.
