La Lagune 2017 has been released at €30.60 per bottle ex-negociant, down 13.6% on the 2016’s opening price of €35.40. It is being offered by UK merchants for £378 per 12×75, down 10% in sterling terms on the 2016 release of £420 per case.
The volume of stock being offered has been reduced by 35% on last year, due to frost.
Critical reception has varied. James Suckling (89-90) commented that it was “slightly reductive and herbal at the moment”.
However, Neal Martin (90-92), writing for Vinous, commented that there is “one of the most refined bouquet that I have encountered on a La Lagune at this early stage”.
Buyers perusing back vintages could consider the 2014 vintage. Neal Martin scored the wine 92 points, adding in April 2018 that “It will need several years in bottle but it will be worth the wait.”
