Chasse Spleen 2017 has been released at €21 per bottle ex-negociant, down 3% on the 2016 release (€21.60). It is being offered by the international trade for £260 per 12×75. This is up a fraction on the 2016 release of £258 per case due to sterling weakness.
Critic scores for Chasse Spleen have been quite varied. Neal Martin (Vinous) commented that “the 2017 seems compromised by the growing season” and awarded just 86-88 points. His former colleague Lisa Perotti-Brown went even lower with a score of 82-84. Chris Kissack (Wine Doctor), on the other hand, scored the 2017 a slightly higher 88-90 points and said the wine “seems a success in the context of the year”.
Prices for Chasse Spleen are not closely correlated to critic scores. Instead, vintages have appreciated in price with the passing of time, as the chart below shows. This year’s Chasse Spleen is entering the market at a price that is significantly higher than recent offerings. Buyers looking for value, therefore, might consider the 2014, which is supported by a higher Wine Advocate score.
