Armailhac 2017 has been released at €31.20 per bottle ex-negociant, down 3.7% on last year (€32.40). It is being offered by the trade at £388 per 12×75. Volumes are down 20% on last year.
The wine has mostly been scored in the low 90’s by critics. Neal Martin awarded it 90-92, calling it a, “more floral d’Armailhac that will drink well for the next decades”. Fellow Vinous critic Antonio Galloni was less generous and suggested that it was a wine for earlier drinking: “The 2017 d’Armailhac is soft, open-knit and fruity, with plenty of luscious fruit and considerable near-term appeal.” He scored it 87-90.
The 2017 Armailhac has the highest percentage of Cabernet in the blend since 2002, according to Jane Anson, due to drought rather than frost. She scored it 91.
At £388, Armailhac is priced a little below most other recent vintages. Prices appear to be most strongly influenced by the age of the wine, rather than critic scores, so this might appeal to buyers seeking a low entry point to the brand. The 2014 represents an alternative that is already in bottle.
