Happy 10th Birthday Liv-ex Blog

By April 16, 2018Fine Wine Market

Today marks the 10th Anniversary of the Liv-ex Blog – that is, it has been exactly ten years since we posted our first blog post. Back then, there was no 4G, the iPad hadn’t been invented and Liv-ex resided in a small office above a pizza restaurant in Clapham Junction.

A lot has changed since then. The following post takes a brief look at the four generations of the Liv-ex Blog, some of its most popular posts and what’s coming next.

Version 1

The first version of the Liv-ex Blog, pictured above, has been the longest standing. It served our readers for seven years and debuted regular reports such as the Liv-ex Classification and Power 100.

Version 2

The first significant upgrade of the Liv-ex Blog took place in 2015. The new website design was fully responsive, allowing you to browse easily on mobile.

Version 3

In 2017, the Liv-ex Blog became Liv-ex Insights. The site was re-designed to cover the breath of our analysis. It included additional pages for the Liv-ex Indices, our reports and Bordeaux En Primeur coverage.

Version 4

This is the current version of the Liv-ex blog. Unlike the previous versions, the fourth edition can now be found within the main website, Liv-ex.com.

Throughout its evolution, the Liv-ex blog has aimed to provide regular updates and analysis on the fine wine market. Below, we share some of our most popular posts over the last ten years.

Most popular analysis:

  1. Liv-ex 2017 classification

Every two years, Liv-ex recreates the original 1855 classification by ranking major Left Bank wines by their price. For the first time, the 2017 Classification included wines from the rest of the world. To view the post, click here.

  1. Interview with Robert Parker

Back in 2012, Robert Parker kindly set aside some time to speak to us about the Bordeaux 2009 vintage. His interview remains one of the most popular posts on the blog today.

  1. Power 100

The 2017 Power 100 – our annual list of the most powerful brands in fine wine – was also among the most viewed posts. Once again, Lafite Rothschild topped the list, however, Burgundy stole the show.

  1. Bordeaux 2017

Guest blogger and Bordeaux wine maker Gavin Quinney kept us up-to-date with the 2017 growing season and harvest with his series of articles. To view the latest production figures for the vintage, click here.

  1. Five times that Robert Parker moved the Bordeaux market

In April 2016, we looked back at the five key moments that reviews from Robert Parker moved the Bordeaux market. To read the post, click here.

 Recent developments

We recently published our annual En Primeur report, Navigating Bordeaux 2017. This year we explored the current position of the Bordeaux market and the importance of fair pricing for the 2017 campaign. To read the report click here.

You can also keep up to date with this year’s campaign via the En Primeur section on the site. On the pages you can find critic scores, price analysis on the latest releases and follow the #bdx17 conversation on Twitter and Instagram.

As ever, the Liv-ex Blog is your source of information direct from the fine wine market. Thank you to the record number of visitors from around the world in 2017. We hope that you have enjoyed – and will continue to enjoy – reading on the new website.
