Ten years on: Right Bank 2008

Last week Liv-ex looked at how the prices of various Left Bank wines have moved since release. Below, we examine those from the Right Bank 50 and Right Bank 100 indices.

The performance of each individual wine has varied significantly. Within the Right Bank 50, Le Pin 2008 has seen the greatest return of 136%. Ausone 2008, on the other hand, has fallen more than any other red 2008 in the Bordeaux 500 since release. It is currently available at a 28% discount to its release price.

Lafleur 2008 is available at its release price. Petrus 2008 and Cheval Blanc 2008 are up 21% and 10% respectively.

Unlike the Right Bank 50, all the Right Bank 100 have risen since En Primeur. Angelus 2008 has gained the most, up an impressive 329% since release. In 2012, Angelus and nearby Pavie were both upgraded to Grand Cru Class A in the Saint Emilion re-classification. Following the upgrade, the price of Angelus 2008 jumped 22% in three months.

Troplong Mondot 2008 has risen the least since release, up just 36%.

Three wines are just 2% off their peak levels: Pavie, Vieux Chateau Certan and Close Fourtet.

Our final report, on Sauternes 2008, will be published later this week.
