LWIN free forever

By June 13, 2017Fine Wine Market, LWIN

LWINLiv-ex has committed to making LWIN – the Liv-ex Wine Identification Number – free forever. It now has a Creative Commons (CC) licence, giving companies the right to share, use and build upon its dictionary for free.

LWIN – The ISBN of the fine wine world – standardises wine names, making sure that everyone is speaking the same language. They are unique seven-digit numbers that correspond to fine wine names.

The LWIN dictionary currently contains LWINs for over 45,000 wines and is growing every day.

LWIN is being widely adopted by the trade and is already used by Berry Brothers and Rudd, Atlas Fine Wines, Farr Vintners and more.

Liv-ex’s Managing Director, James Miles said: “We are delighted that LWIN is being widely adopted by the trade. In challenging times, LWIN offers opportunities to both streamline operations and grow sales. It has always been Liv-ex’s ambition to make the LWIN database free and universal. The new LWIN Creative Commons licence commits this principle to law.”
